Idle iPad vs Skylight Calendar for a Hong Kong family board

Skylight Calendar 2 is a dedicated wall calendar (about US$300). Homent reuses an idle iPad or Android tablet as the same Hong Kong household board as the phones.

Turn an idle iPad into a family board, or buy a Skylight?

Skylight Calendar 2 (15") is a dedicated wall calendar. In August 2026 it is typically about US$299.99 for the hardware. Calendar, lists, and chores can work without a subscription. Skylight Plus is optional (often quoted around US$79/year) for extras such as meal planning.

Homent Display uses an iPad or Android tablet you already have, or a browser on iPadOS 12.5+ / Android 8+. The Family App is free forever. The board is not a US kitchen calendar frame. It is the same Hong Kong household board as the phones: who is on pickup, notices, dinner, a helper’s to-dos, and a printout when elders will not look at the screen.

If you want a beautiful dedicated 15" frame and you live in the Skylight/Cozi world, buy Skylight. If you already have a spare iPad in a Hong Kong household with a helper and school runs, put Homent on it. More on the tablet display.

A larger Skylight Max is a different product. Homent does not try to be that.

What you actually see on the wall

Skylight is a calendar appliance. The household walks up and reads the month.

Homent Display is the household *status* board. The useful surface is today: which event, who is on pickup, where. Phones stay in sync. The tablet is optional. The phones are the product. That is the opposite of Skylight, where the tablet *is* the product.

Honest limits

Homent Display is not a $300 piece of kitchen hardware. Colour, mount, and “always on” behaviour depend on the tablet you already own. Native apps need iOS 15.5+. The browser board works on older Safari (iPadOS/iOS 12.5+).

Homent is not a medical device. The wall board does not watch anyone.
