Why Homent is free
Homent’s family app is free forever. No parent subscription. We hope Tools can create synergy between families and local businesses, without selling your data.
Why Homent is free
If you registered early: thank you. You signed up when we still talked about a three-month trial and a small monthly fee. On Threads and in ordinary conversations, parents said the same thing in different words.
Raising children in Hong Kong is already expensive. School, classes, a helper, clinic visits, food. The family calendar is not the costly part. A “free trial” that later becomes a subscription is still a bill you have to remember — and another thing to feel guilty about cancelling.
So we stopped charging for the family app.
What “free” means
- Existing families and new ones. The app is free forever. There is no trial clock.
- No credit card. We never required one to start. We still do not.
- No feature tiers. Pickup, dinner, notices, to-dos, medicine on the board, print, and the wall-tablet software stay in the free app.
- Hardware is optional. Care sensors are sold separately. The phones work without them.
We are not hiding a paywall for later. If that promise ever has to change, we will say so on this page first.
How we operate
A household board still costs money to host. We will not make that money by selling your family’s data, or by selling where you live.
We hope for a simple synergy: families find nearby activities and everyday extras in Tools; local businesses can reach households that actually need them. The household board itself stays free, and without ads.
The Family App already has a Tools tab. That is where daily-life extras live — not on the wall board, and not inside “who is on pickup.”
- Nearby activities (SoFunNear): school open days, classes, family outings. You can add a listing to the Homent calendar so it does not expire in a chat thread.
- ReadStory: Two main features — photograph a physical book and turn the text into digital text with OCR / AI, or generate a new story with AI. Then read it aloud in the browser or the ReadStory app, in more than one language.
- Body measure: height and weight (and blood pressure if you want). There is an optional AI growth chat. It is not a medical device and not a doctor.
Later, listings in that Tools surface may be supported by a fair fee from the business — the way a local directory works with a shop. That is not a monthly bill for the family board. The board itself stays without ads: who is on the run, who took the medicine, what is for dinner.
If a listing is paid, we will label it. We will not sell your household records to those merchants.
What we will not do
- Charge you to keep using Homent Family.
- Put ads on the wall board, or inside pickup and medicine.
- Sell personal data or build location profiles for advertising.

How do you make money?

Will ads appear on the wall board?
No. The board, pickup, and medicine stay without ads. Tools is a separate tab.
Do I need a credit card?
